Leadership and Expedition Development Manager

The Leadership and Expedition Development Manager will be responsible for the development of the leadership training and expedition support for the DofE in the North of England Region.

The post holder will report to the Director – North of England and is responsible for the training and expedition portfolio throughout the Region and will support the attainment of the operational and financial targets contained within the regional plans.

Delivery of expedition leadership training and the Modular Training Framework courses.

• Assisting with reporting and fundraising applications for the development and operational activity.

• Create a rolling marketing strategy to promote land and water training opportunities whilst generating new business and supporting Centres who are migrating to DLC.

Recruit, train and retain volunteers to increase our outstanding volunteer network.

• Manage a regional training budget of expedition related restricted funds to help promote the Adventurous journey, DES, LLA and other expedition training courses.

• To ensure that costs for all programmes are on budget and wherever possible cost neutral or generates a surplus.

• Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of expedition training, and take responsibility for maintaining the highest satisfaction ratings amongst delegates.

Key accountabilities

• To maintain and further develop the Expedition Support Service that will include the new Adventurous Journey to LOs in the region. To upskill leaders to deliver expeditions to increase the numbers of groups in LOs.

• To create and deliver a rolling marketing strategy to promote land and water training opportunities whilst generating new business and supporting Centres who are migrating to DLC.

• Manage a Regional training budget of expedition related restricted funds to help promote the new Adventurous Journey, DES, LLA and other expedition training courses. To ensure that costs for all programmes are on budget and wherever possible at cost neutral or generates a surplus

• Secure funding to facilitate continued subsidised expedition training opportunities and provide Quarterly reports and case studies to account for this.

• Create and manage the North of England Expedition Training and Leadership Team comprising trainers and admin support and create a portfolio of attractive high quality training courses.

• Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of expedition training, and take responsibility for maintaining the highest satisfaction ratings amongst delegates.

• Maintain an up-to-date listing of training courses available on the regional website and other communications platforms to optimise attendance.

• Maintain an up-to-date database of trained and valid expedition Assessors and optimise their use across the Region.

• Work with Operations Managers to organise a calendar of expedition training opportunities for leaders and Network Assessors and deliver as per the plan.

• Ensure that queries and complaints regarding the programme and participants are fed to the appropriate Operations Manager.

• Maintain good public relations with landowners and other stakeholders within the North of England Region.

• Contribute to National expedition training initiatives developed by the Charity when required by the Director.

• Attend outdoor industry conferences or seminars and remain current on the activities as required by the Director.

• Ensure robust safety standards including H&S and AALS.

• Maintain kit store and accurate inventory ensuring its kept in good condition and maintaining industry standards.

• To undertake tasks as instructed by the Director.
