Operations Manager CE - WEST

Central England - West -

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (the DofE) is a UK charity that makes a difference to young people’s lives. Over 275,000 young people per year from every possible background take part in a DofE programme to broaden their horizons, develop their leadership skills, learn to work with others, volunteer in their local communities, increase their employability, and prove to themselves they can succeed at a serious challenge.

The Charity licenses other organisations to provide DofE activities to young people. We guide, support and develop these partners but do not work directly with young people undertaking DofE programmes.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Due to unprecedented demand for DofE, the Central England Region is embarking on
an exciting investment programme. We are in the process of recruiting additional Operations staff to join our team and support our Licensed Organisation partners
as they develop their local provision for Participants. The Charity is undergoing significant development in many areas, including the use of our programme to attract
participation by disengaged and unemployed young people, young offenders and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Operations Manager is responsible for the achievement of Regional targets and strategy through the provision of technical advice, training, quality assurance and development support to a portfolio of Licensed Organisations.

The Charity licenses other organisations to provide DofE activities to young people. We guide, support and develop these partners but do not work directly with young people undertaking DofE programmes.

You will be responsible for the management of a team of Operations Officers. Through your team, and with the support of other office-based colleagues, you will be responsible for overseeing the day to day contact and long term planning, and support of, Licensed Organisations. You will also be responsible for overseeing the increase in availability of DofE to the young residents of the Region. This will involve:

• Work closely with existing centres to unlock their capacity limitations;

• Encouraging non-participating schools and other youth service providers to start Groups;
• Promoting DofE to other organisations which work with young people, particularly those from deprived backgrounds.

In conjunction with the Regional Director develop the Regional Operational Strategy and ensure its implementation through the Operations Officers.
• The attainment of Key Operating Targets to grow DofE in your area and extend our reach to new groups of young people.
• Line management and development of an allocated staff team.
• To establish, promote and maintain strong working relationships (either directly or via a line managed Operations Officer) with Licensed Organisations to ensure the delivery of a high quality DofE programme across the Region.
• Act as Lead for ‘Quality’ across the Central England Region Operations Team and on the management team.
• To keep abreast of Government, Local Authority and other policies and initiatives in order to be able to link these to the operation of the DofE in the Region.
• To produce and implement through the Operations Officers a strategy for licence reviews to include a timetable and a set process to ensure a consistent approach is taken in all reviews.
• In conjunction with the Regional Director and colleagues throughout the Charity, identify areas for potential growth and undertake a programme of promotion and recruitment to prospective new Licensed Organisations.
• Provide support in utilising Regional income streams, including the preparation of grant applications.
• To assist with the planning, promotion and management of regional events.
• To represent the Regional Office at Gold Award Presentations.
