SHEQ Advisor

Hinkley Point - Upon Application

To assist in the delivery of Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality services to the various unregulated part of Wessex Water Engineering and Construction.

The objectives include: -

  • Identifying strategies, developing systems, monitoring performance and the provision of advice and support to ensure compliance with statutory and company requirements.


The provision of competent advice and support in the key areas of SHEQ is difficult to quantify, The SHEQ Advisor will contribute to the financial success of the business by ensuring the team reduces individual and corporate risk including the risks of prosecution, uninsured loss and bad publicity.


The SHEQ Advisor will not be responsible for staff directly, however will work closely with other members of the site teams and department heads.


The SHEQ Advisor provides an advisory monitoring and enforcement role to all areas of E&C Unregulated, primary location is Hinkley Point C.

Ensuring professional competence is maintained and knowledge of best practice

Achievement of company KPI - supporting managers to meet their targets for the work streams and the company 

Ensuring E&C Unregulated is competitive and standards are maintained

Accurate and on time reports for line and senior mangers / input to monthly compliance report.


Ensuring the business is made aware of current situations and levels of performance.

Collation of SHEQ statistics to input into trend analysis

Ensuring data is received and acted upon and monitoring performance in a pro-active way. 

Creation and Implementation of SHEQ policies and procedures

Ensuring policies and procedural requirements are communicated, used and where necessary revised.

Undertaking audits and inspections to set frequency as outlined in the service level agreement

Monitoring and reporting on levels of compliance – supporting remedial actions – maintaining standards

Incident and accident investigations

Ensuring root cause is determined – support with senior manager close out and any subsequent system improvements.

Acting as focal point alongside the provision of assistance / guidance for specific asset and functional groups to ensure compliance with statutory provision, company standards and procedures

Providing support to managers and project teams.

Translating company objectives into workable solutions

Recommending policy and improvement standards


Supporting managers to ensure policy, systems are fit for purpose

Recommending improvements in line with ISO requirements


Improving systems – retaining certification

Support to Best Practice Group and other steering groups

Meeting statutory requirements and promoting better communications

Support with union meetings



Meeting statutory requirements and promoting better communications

Provision of local SHEQ training along with site visits

Ensuring awareness at site level – Proactive risk reduction

Liaison with all departments on specific projects that may be taking place

Ensuring legal compliance acting as point of contact. Provision of specific / specialised advice

Support to senior managers with SHEQ tours

Raising awareness / provision of specialist advice / support

Development of SHEQ pre-qualification and tender responses for external work (Unregulated side of the business)


Specialist input to ensure E&C Unregulated is able to tender for external work

Support with external auditing bodies such as LRQA / ROSPA etc


Maintenance of ISO certification (9001 / 14001 / 45001) to enable Unregulated to obtain external work and demonstrate high levels of compliance

Support to obtain SHE awards and recognition for the company


Business promotion – endorsement of priorities throughout business. Benefits with external clients

Liaison with enforcing bodies such as the EA, HSE and others as required

Demonstration of company commitment – reduce risk of enforcement action therefore cost benefit.
