All at The Royal Marines Charity would like to congratulate Royal Marine Veteran and Charity Ambassador Mark Ormrod on his two gold medals at the 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney.
Former Royal Mark Ormrod has claimed two gold medals in the indoor rowing events, winning gold in both the Men’s IR1 Four Minute Endurance and the Men’s IR1 One Minute Sprint.
On an Instagram post, after his victory, Mark paid tribute to his teammates and the Royal Marines contingent that travelled from all over the globe to support Team UK at the Invictus Games.
The Invictus Games are a Para-sport event for wounded, injured or sick services personnel and their associated veterans. The 2018 games are the fourth Invictus Games, after their creation by HRH Prince Harry in 2014. This year, the games are being hosted in the Southern hemisphere for the first time, taking place in Sydney, Australia.
At his first ever Invictus Games last year, Mark was awarded the prestigious Jaguar Award for exceptional performance, determination and dedication.
Mark will now go on to compete in the swimming and athletics events and states he is staying focused to support the rest of the team with their events and races.
Earlier this month, a Sculpture of Mark was unveiled. ‘Undefeated’ by international sculpture Ben Dearnley, is a unique piece feature Mark’s Torso, finished in a classical Greek Style of a warrior’s fragmented torso.
Daily coverage of the games will be shown on BBC One, presented by former Royal Marines JJ Chalmers and presenter of the One Show, Alex Jones. You can view all the action here.
